Richard Anthony Proctor was a 19th century Astronomer, who, intrigued by the writings of a Roman philospher, first developed the theory that the Great Pyramid had been designed and used as an astronomical observatory. Proctor surmises that the Grand Gallery, a huge graduated slot sitting perfectly on the meridian and considered an architectural masterpiece, was used to observe the transit of the stars.
